If the smoke detector does not signal when you press the test button, you can try the suggestions below to solve your problem.
1. Hold the test button down longer
Try holding down the test button for 20 seconds. Most detectors require you to hold the test button down long enough before the test alarm sounds. Be sure to check out the article "How to maintain and test my smoke detector".
2. Check the power supply
Make sure the battery is properly installed and firmly pressed into the compartment. Even if the alarm sounds briefly, you should still check that the battery(s) is snapped securely into place. If the battery is loose, the smoke alarm cannot be powered properly and flawless operation cannot be guaranteed.
3. Replace the battery
Your detector's battery may be dead. Replace the battery and see if the problem persists. Also read the article "What replacement batteries can I use?" in our advice center for more information.
